I found the over-use of the same kind of puzzle, irritating. For example the jumping from one platform to another where the distance between the two areas are very critical, and is most irritating when you have completed 90% of the jumps only to fail athe last. It's not the style of adventure games that I prefer, I like to solve problems, not bash the hell out of my keyboard just to get from A to B. On top of that there are a number of game-play traps where I found myself looking for a solution and trying to gain access to unusual places only to find I have found myself in an impossible (in my view) unrecoverable position, and the only answer for me was to restart the level. I believe that happened to me in all 4 lands. To be fair to the software developers my screen adapter driver was not recommended, but in attempting to upgrade my driver I was putting my PC in jeopardy, by getting at one point the dreaded blue screen of death. I was lucky and able to restore the PC but decided to not risk any further upgrades. The visual graphic appearance is excellent, the music very pleasing, but ultimately the game-play is not my style.. Amazingly tranquil experience with challenging puzzels, beautiful environments, a nice setting and great music to boot. More than worth it!. First I want to say this game reminds me a log of Myst, and in many ways is better than that game. Like you have much greater freedom of movement and if you want to jump off that cliff or jump to that ledge you can. It also looks amazing in non-VR 4K and I have only run into one bug in world 3, and it was not a show stopping one. Now for the Pros vs. Cons:The Cons: There are bugs, as seen on the discussion for this game but I also see the developer responding there as well. The game is short. There are only 4 worlds to visit, and even with the extra runes you have to collect there is limited replayability. If you miss one of the runes, and need to go back for it you have to complete every puzzle in a world you have completed up to it. This often means you have to replay every puzzle, jump, and vista up to the rune you missed. The Pros: This game looks amazing and the environments are properly varied. You also get to cycle rain, snow, and if its night or day, and this makes every one of the landscapes really come alive. Also I find the architecture stunning, especially in the 4th desert world. Freedom of movement and encouragement to explore. There are hidden runes and plenty to explore, and I really wanted to poke in every nook and cranny to just see how beautiful the game was. Also in most cases if you can see it, you can get to it in this game. I have enjoyed the puzzles in this game and found them to be about the correct difficulty, as in I could solve them with some though and exploration and never got so stuck that I could not think about the puzzle and figure it out. I also like the various mechanics the puzzles use and find them varied enough they don't get repetitive. The music works very well for this game, and while there is nothing to make me run out and buy the sound track I did not find at any point that I got tired of hearing the same track loop. The poems that lay out each worlds story are fully voiced and really add to the game. The writing of them is superb, but I do have one gripe. That is the voice only plays the first time you pick up one of the verses.. Please fix the physics where you jump on platforms and even though they are solid, you fall right through into water. Others have mentioned this and I experienced this on the very first sun/moon puzzle. I can't proceed in the game b/c of this. The game looks beautiful, but I cannot continue playing due to this bug. Will have to refund until this gets fixed.. The experience is rather short if you are good at puzzle solving, but it is worth every single penny. The game is insanely immersive and I found myself crying after ending the story.I am planning to buy a VR headset in the coming months, and I feel that this game will be worth revisiting for that.. Waited 4.5 years for this?! Fails as enjoyable or challenging.. Now I've cleared the game, I'm ready to write this review. Please note that I only played it in VR, so if you want a flat screen review, consider reading other reviews :)Also, my game time indicates 8.9h but I had several days without internet, so I played Xing without increasing the game timer (I'd say two afternoons of 3-4h).Xing is one of my best VR experiences so far. The genre does not fit to everyone but that was to me right on the spot. This game is peaceful, exotic, made me feel to be somewhere else, made me think outside of the box (some puzzles are tough), with a tiny touch of spirituality. And in this genre, it's a masterpiece, no less. One word of advice on configuration : turn foliage to max, even if you need to set lots of things on low. that's what I did. Nothing feels more exotic than lowering your head when you go through some trees' branches.. Be careful what you wish for.” That's what I told myself about halfway through this game. Xing: The Land Beyond is a beautiful puzzle game where you assume the role of a person who had just passed way. Your goal is to help the Guardian track down four lost souls so they can be “preserved”. If successful, you'll never be born again, allowing you to pass through to the other side.Pros:Graphics are top notchPuzzles range from kindergarten to insaneWell optimizedDiverse and beautiful environmentsEntertaining puzzle elementsA progress button (In the pause menu)Mini storiesCons:Some rendering glitches (mostly in the last story area)It's possible to become trapped in the very last puzzleWhen I started this game, I began to think to myself, “I hope the puzzles get harder than this” because it felt as though I was playing “Barbie and the 12 dancing princesses”, a children's PC game. “How do you know this?”, you'll probably asking yourself. Simple, I played it with my daughter who was 4 years old at the time.About a third of the way through Xing, the puzzles became much more complex. Then, at the half way point is when I utter the first sentence in this review. By the time I got towards the end, the puzzles where becoming insanely hard, BUT, I managed to do it without help. When it was over, I felt like my brain had just been baked. One of the things I really liked about this game is the progress button in the pause menu. It tells you how many letters you found, how many there are to go, and how many runes found. Each world has five runes and you have to find them all if you want to know what the signs are trying to tell you.I didn't have any technical problems with this game but I did get trapped on the last puzzle of the game, forcing me to start the area again... I wasn't happy. However, I managed to finish. At the time of this review, Xing: The Land Beyond was selling for $19.99. I logged in about 16 hours from start to finish so it's well worth it. I wouldn't even wait for a sale, buy it now.
